There have been over 100 jackpot-winning tickets sold in SuperEnalotto since the game started in 1997, with participants from all corners of the country matching all six numbers to become instant multimillionaires.
Campania, in the south-west, has so far proved to be the most successful location, with 18 winners. The largest of those prizes was the €71 million claimed by a ticket holder from Naples in December 2010.
Second on the list of lucky regions is Lazio, the home to Rome and around 6 million residents, making it one of Italy’s most populous areas. Lazio has delivered 16 jackpots, although it does not figure at all in the top 20 biggest winners. The highest so far has been the €44 million payout to a player from Montopoli di Sabina back in September 1999.
Why Some Places Are More Successful
It is no surprise that Campania and Lazio are among the luckiest regions as they are among the largest in terms of population. It follows that there are generally more wins in those places where there are more players as more tickets are sold. However, it is Lombardy that is actually the most populated region in Italy, and only six jackpots have been given away here.
One region that has performed better than might be expected, based on its population, has been Emilia Romagna. There have been 12 occasions when the top prize has been won in Emilia Romagna, including the participant from Parma who scooped half of €139 million in February 2010. Go to the Winners page to see a table showing the number of players who have won from every region, to see how lucky it is to live where you are.
For the biggest prizes, though, it may be best to be located somewhere such as Tuscany or Sicily, which both feature twice in the top six biggest ever jackpots. The largest of the lot, €177 million, was won by a ticket that belonged to a nationwide syndicate of 70 players, from 38 different towns and cities across the country.
The current jackpot is closing in quickly on top spot after moving into second position, and could be the largest of all time by the end of the month. The last time the jackpot was won was back in June last year, but every ticket has a chance of landing the top prize. These odds are the same regardless of where you buy your ticket, and there are also a few ways to increase your chances.
Vinci Casa Promotion
As well as the prospect of a new SuperEnalotto record being set, a special Vinci Casa promotion will be taking place from Monday 17th June to Sunday 23rd June. Every day that week, there will be a guaranteed prize of €500,000, which winners can then put towards buying a new property in Italy as the game demands.
The promotion, known as ‘Vincesi Casa Garantita’ in Italy, will work in a similar way to SuperEnalotto Raffles. A unique code will be printed on your ticket for every line of Vinci Casa numbers you select, and one winning code will be selected at random each evening.
You can enter the promotion just by buying a regular ticket in the normal way, either online or from a retailer, or you can pick up one of the special pre-printed cards that has been put together. You can also play SuperEnalotto at the same time, and it could just be that the huge jackpot is finally won in an exciting month.
